Low cost E-Bodas to create social transition for ordinary mwananchi

Kenya’s target to introduce low-cost e-boda bodas presents an opportunity to transition ordinary mwananchi to a fair and just boda boda market.

Today, the Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Investments, Trade and Industry - MITI, Hon. Moses Kuria, noted that the transition will enable an ordinary Boda Boda rider to afford a bike without the unjust profiteering by manufacturers and loaners.

The CS, together with Principal Secretary for Industry, Dr. Juma Mukhwana, led a second sector meeting between Kenya Auto Bazaar Association (KABA) and Kenya Vehicle Manufacturers Association (KVMA).

MITI targets to enable the provision of EV motorbikes on single-digit loans by the year 2027.

The meeting discussed incentives for EV manufacturing and necessary industry needs in order to expand Kenya’s competitiveness to be the number one producer of EV bikes by December 2023. Among the incentives is the draft automotive bill that will help re-engineer the sector.  In addition, the meeting also took stock of the upcoming Presidential round table and the preparedness for the Africa climate summit with emphasis on Kenya’s manufacturing of electric vehicles.

Kenyans will have the opportunity to view and sample EV bikes at a special exhibition during the Africa Climate Week Summit between the 4th - 6th of September 2023
