Enhancing Quality Assurance and Trade Collaboration: Kenya and Thailand Join Forces in Agro Processing and Pharmaceuticals
In pursuit of advancing agro processing, value addition, and pharmaceutical sectors, the Permanent Secretary (PS) embarked on a visit to the Thailand Food & Drug Administration, a regulatory body ensuring quality assurance for imported drugs and processed food. The meeting resulted in a significant agreement between the two countries to collaborate on benchmarking standards, with a particular focus on facilitating trade in drugs and processed agricultural products.
Recognizing the importance of maintaining high-quality standards in the agro processing and pharmaceutical industries, the discussions centered on enhancing quality assurance measures and harmonizing regulations. Kenya's delegation, led by the PS, engaged in fruitful deliberations with the Thailand Food & Drug Administration to explore avenues of collaboration.
As a result, the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) and the Thailand Food & Drug Administration agreed to work closely together on benchmarking standards. This collaboration aims to streamline trade processes, ensure the quality and safety of imported drugs, and promote the smooth flow of processed agricultural products between the two countries.
By aligning their standards and sharing best practices, Kenya and Thailand aspire to create an enabling environment for trade in agro processed goods and pharmaceuticals. The collaboration will not only enhance consumer confidence but also boost export opportunities and contribute to the growth of both economies.
