SPECIAL ECONOMIC ZONE IN MIRITINI
Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Sherif Nassir Said that the County Government of Mombasa is at an advanced stage of operationalizing its Special Economic Zone in Miritini. This flagship project is expected to create 10,000 direct jobs and 50, 000 indirect jobs for the people of Mombasa. The Governor received the Principal Secretary Abubakar Hassan Abubabar from the State Department of Industrialization when he paid him a working visit. They agreed to work together to speed up my administration’s efforts to put the people in meaningful employment. Mombasa County was the first county to have a county-owned gazetted special economic zone. Later the PS joined the Governor of Mombasa to discuss progress on the start of development and construction of the zone. They also discussed the role of county licensing and permit regimes in enhancing the business environment to attract investors and the role of counties in the privatization program. They closed the day with a visit to Revital EPZ in Kilifi County to discuss the implementation matrix for its 40-million-dollar expansion program in Nairobi County. They are committed to protecting local manufacturers who create jobs for our youth by imposing an import levy on products that can be manufactured locally to make local factories competitive and thrive.
